Acupressure is a non-invasive form of body work, uses physical pressure applied to acupressure points by the hand or elbow, or with various devices. The basic principle is similar to acupuncture. It is based on the concept of life energy which flows through meridians in the body.
In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians.
Many East Asian martial arts also make extensive study and use of acupressure for self defense and health purposes.
It is helpful in low back pain, joint pains, nausea, headaches, etc, but more research is needed.
There are different instruments for applying non specific pressure by rubbing, rolling or applying pressure on the reflex zones of the body. Acuball, energy roller, foot roller, power mat, spine roller, and some needles are used.
